Buying gifts for people can be a very time consuming and frustrating thing. Even buying for people that you know well can be a much harder thing than it should be. Therefore, there should be an easier way to do this.
Solution
Monday Boxes is a care package company that has pre-made gift boxes and also personalized options for easily creating gifts for others. I'm going to create a phone app for this company that will make the ordering experience quick and easy so that you can spend less time frustrating yourself about buying the perfect gift year round.
| What they do | Strengths | Threats to design | Weaknesses | Bugs | . | |
| Box Fox | They market themselves as a personalized gift package company. They allow you to create the box yourself or purchase a pre-done box. They specialize in corporate gifting as well. |
- offer pre-done and custom box options
- have a section that helps you
with corporate gifting
- well known and well established
company
| - do corporate gifting work, which is something I don’t have - already well established and cited online as the place to get fashionable and personalized gifts | - more of a high end gift service. They have cheaper priced boxes but there is a definitely more expensive options than cheaper priced ones | One of the only complaints about Box Fox I could find was that their customer service was very slow to respond when they had a problem ordering and receiving their personalize box and its contents. | |
| Giftagram | Also a gift package company, Giftagram markets themselves as a personalized gifting app that makes shopping for the perfect gift easy. They also do corporate gifting. | - has an app that they market for faster, easier gifting - allow you to search boxes by category for easier searching - have a section for boxes under 50 dollars for those on a budget | - Giftagram is another very well known app for gift box services - they also also work in corporate gifting | - not necessarily a weakness but Giftagram’s boxes seem to be
very focused on alcohol and food boxes - much less personalization available with Giftagram, you can’t make your own box | Several complaints from customers showed that Giftagram’s 3 to 5 day shipping option can take double that time if not longer and customer service was not available to help with the issues
| Greetabl | A gift box company that lets you make everything about the gift box personal. You can choose exactly how you want the box to look then you choose the items you want to put in it. | - about as personalized a gift package service as you’re going
to get - you can add custom messages, choose from many different patterns and styles for you r box, and add whatever you want to it - let customers add their own photos to the box | - Greetable is highly customizable and that will appeal to many
customers who want that kind of personalization
- their products to add to the boxes are also very fair in price making it easy to spend as much or as little as you want -Also have an option to easily send a large amount of gifts | - only have one box size you can use so that limits the customer - if a customer wanted to add a lot of photos they only allow up to three | The only real complaint I found for Greetabl was some customers wished that gift cards were a gifting option
| Bon Vivant | A small company that does gift boxes. They have boxes that are already done that do sell out and you can create your own. | - if you live close to the company at certain zip codes you can
have the package hand delivered same day - there are different categories you can search under to find the kind of gift you’re looking for | - a higher end class of gift packages, they might get higher
paying clientele - you can create your own box and they do corporate gifting | - I couldn’t really find a gift package that was less than 50
dollars without shipping - their gift card section was empty without any reason why | - their website was a little weird and I had a little trouble with menus popping up and obscuring what I wanted |
Design Defense
There are many other sites that carry pre-done gift packages, but by also making them editable by the customer so they can have exactly what they want is not a feature offered everywhere.
By having a short quiz to help customers decide what's the best gift for them, this app will help make buying gifts easier and less stressful.
Many sites will let you choose subject matter off the homepage to show you what's available, but Monday Boxes breaks categories down from age group, how you know them, and the occasion to give you different potential options if you want to have that option.
Target audience will be those between the ages of 18-40.

Scenarios
Approach 1
-Ashely needs to shop for her grandmother’s birthday
coming up.
-She needs it to be quick and easy.
-While she’s waiting for her college philosophy class to
start, she opens the Monday Box app on her phone.
-She clicks on the birthday section.
-Searches till she finds the perfect box for her
grandmother and her budget.
-Clicks on buy now, fills out the payment section and has
it shipped to her grandmother’s address all before class starts.
|
Rationale
-Monday Boxes gives you a fast, streamlined experience for
buying the special people in your life gifts.
-There are sections that make it easy to find the perfect
gift for what you’re looking for.
|
Approach 2
-Brian needs to find a Secret Santa gift for his work
party.
-He hates shopping so he wants it to be quick and easy.
He opens his Monday Boxes app and clicks on the Who’s It
For? Link.
-He chooses acquaintance and he’s directed to the pre-done
boxes perfect for acquaintances.
-He chooses a box with samples and proceeds to checkout.
-He chooses to have it sent to his house and closes the
app.
|
Rationale
-By choosing from sections and narrowing down the reason
for the gift, Brian was able to quickly and painlessly find a gift that
worked well for what he needed.
-It was also a quick and smooth process so he didn’t get
overly frustrated with the shopping experience.

Final Design Decision
I designed Monday Boxes to be simple to navigate and find what you need. The side drop down menu helps you to narrow down what you're looking for. Once you make your selection you're directed to a page that shows you all the box options, or if you chose make your own, you will see all the item options available. Subscriptions will give you the customizable option to change any of the items coming in a box before it is shipped to the receiver. Over all, Monday Boxes is an app that streamlines and simplifies the gifting process. It makes gift buying just as fun as actually receiving gifts.
